At 5:00 a.m. every morning, John Basile is out on the docks in Scituate looking for the best fresh fish to bring back to the Quarterdeck Market.  At 6:00 a.m., he's moved on to the the Boston Fish Pier. By noon, he'll be behind the counter at the market. John was a commercial fisherman for 20 years, both on his own boat and as a crew member on other boats.

Quarterdeck owner Chris and his brother John  have decades of experience on the fish piers.  They know the owners of the boats and where they fish and how they handle the fish. The captains, the guys who unload the boats, and the wholesalers all greet the Basile brothers, and often save them a special catch.

The Quarterdeck emphasizes quality and interesting variety.   Items you wouldn't find at the supermarket include steelhead trout, different kinds of tuna, and shellfish from many shores.  Local scallops and house smoked fish are also treats.

Chris and John put in long hours at the market to make sure everything is done right.  They can pick out a fish that's just right for your taste, tell you its history, and suggest a couple of recipes.

Ask about shipping seafood to family and business associates anywhere in the country.  Twice a week the Quarterdeck ships to chefs in Florida and Chicago.  Shipping isn't just for lobsters; fresh tuna or anything on the seafood list makes a fine gift for inland friends.
